  • Writer, entomologist, and principal author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America (Houghton Mifflin Company, 2007)
  • Has contributed to several other books including The Butterfly Gardener’s Guide (Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 2003) and Wild in the City: a guide to Portland’s natural areas (Oregon Historical Society Press, 2000)
  • Has written articles about insects and other animals for Birds and Blooms, Ranger Rick, Missouri Conservationist, Timeline (journal of the Ohio Historical Society), and other magazines
  • Writes the blogs Bug Eric and Sense of Misplaced
  • Currently resides in Colorado Springs with his wife, Heidi

Len Osborne
Board Member
  • Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science from Texas Tech University and Columbia Southern
  • Certified as a biologist for projects with the NPS, Forest Service, BLM and USDA
  • Current project is a joint paper with Dr. Gary Morgan with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. “I was fortunate enough to discover a live stream cutting through a fossil fauna site in Denver. We will describe the fauna, site and I get to slap a name on the site that I hope will make people laugh and cringe.”
  • Has been in the invertebrate hobby for a good length of time. “It is a passion and study. I feel very strongly about the ethics and good name of the Mile High Bug Club that Bell has helped create and is a driving force and foundation for. I consider tarantulas to be nothing more than puppies with an extra set of legs. Hope to see you all soon and keep the spirit of the club burning like gasoline and gunpowder.”

  • Specialties/Interests: Latrodectus, Arachnids, Formicidae, Mutillidae, Crotalus
  • Currently resides in Colorado Springs with his wife, Becca, and two children
